Penny Shaw
Penny Shaw has worked as a professional singer for over 25 years, in opera, musical theatre, as a recording artist and she is also an experienced MC. In 2020 Penny appeared as Despina in West Australian Opera’s acclaimed production of Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte.
A graduate of Oxford University in her 20s Penny worked throughout the UK and Europe as an operatic soprano, singing many roles including Violetta in La Traviata, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro and Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera.
Recordings include singing on Reverence - Faithless’s platinum selling 1996 album and Hell for Leather, award winning film by Emmy Award nominee Dominik Scherrer.
Since moving to WA from London in 1999 she has sung with the West Australian Opera both in the chorus and as a principal artist and has also been an integral part of both their education and community outreach programs.
Penny founded Daisy Productions in 2002 and has produced and appeared in countless events in Perth and in regional Western Australia including shows for Downstairs at the Maj, Perth Concert Hall, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, Broome Opera Under the Stars and the Shinju Matsuri Festival, Perth International Arts Festival, Vienna Pops New Year’s Eve concerts, Perth Symphony Orchestra, Fremantle Chamber Orchestra, Fringe World Festival and many corporate events.
In 2011 she formed DivaLicious, a comic opera duo, with fellow soprano Fiona Cooper Smyth and they have been going strong ever since.
